Nutrition Wellness Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have no convictions of a felony or past criminal history and be in good health, as evidenced by completing a physical examination as prescribed by the Board. Must be of good character and moral behavior, must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Wellness DUTIES: Contribute to the development, implementation, and administration of research-based policies and procedures that support healthy physical development, promote positive and culturally relevant health behaviors, and support good nutritional eating habits that enhance life-long well-being for children and families. Collaboration and communication with school staff, community partners, other local resources, and families are essential for healthy outcomes for children. Identify, recommend, and implement approved management and program improvement plans per the district strategic plan. Monitor and analyze systems to make recommendations for each cafeteria site-strong knowledge of health and nutrition issues related to school and community nutrition. Understand USDA dietary guidelines as it relates to the nutritional needs of children during the school year and summer months.
CRITICAL SKILL/EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
Creative strengths to provide innovative activities and program management
Strong organizational and computer skills (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meets, etc.)
Must be able to travel to and from various sites daily in a private vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed. Sanitation and safety practices related to handling, cooking, baking, and serving food.
Methods of preparing and serving food in large quantities.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Standard kitchen equipment, utensils, and measurements.
Must be able to adjust to quickly changing circumstances and multiple demands appropriately.
Health and safety regulations as directed in the HACCP plan.
Must possess skills in problem-solving, time management, organization, processing paperwork efficiently, and collecting and interpreting data.
Implement 95210 Health and Wellness Programs to align program goals with Alliance for Healthier Generation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work with all facets of the Barren County community
Provide Health and Wellness programs
Expand parent involvement and skill building (4 meetings per year)
Participate in developing policies and procedures, program improvement plans, and service plans to ensure compliance with district policy, wellness policy, National School Lunch, Breakfast, and Snack Programs, and other regulatory requirements to meet the needs of students, staff, and families. Implement nutrition services for children and schools within assigned schools.
Schedule and/or perform grade-level appropriate programs and nutrition and wellness education programs in afterschool classrooms, at community events, and in cafeteria settings.
Coordinate nutrition services, community partners, and school staff to create and improve wellness education programs.
Deliver nutrition education workshops for assigned schools.
With teaching and administrative staff, plan and provide afterschool and wellness-related learning experiences in all events afterschool programs, classrooms, cafeteria, and community events (i.e., Family engagement nights, skill-building, 95210 family nights, food tasting events, National School Lunch Week, National School Breakfast Week, School Lunch Hero Day, Farm to Fork (Spring and Fall), Hog Rost, Even with Industry, Walk-A-Mile, Tower to Table, FFVP, and other special events, etc.

Participate in reviews to ensure a high quality-feeding program for school meals and snacks. Monitor food production worksheets to ensure compliance with department requirements. (Afterschool snack sheet CACFP)
Provide nutrition and health education to teaching staff, cooks, staff, parents, and children.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Increase parent involvement, skill building, and wellness at the district and school level Initiate new community partnerships
Organize the nutritional components of the program by following BCBOE Nutrition Services regulations and policies.
Serve as liaison to the public school and community in reference to the health and nutritional needs of the students.
Collaborate with the FRYSC Directors and Assistants in addition to Community Education and other federal programs.
Initiate transitional activities to allow for a seamless transition for students.
Enter and maintain accurate financial records and data in tracking systems payroll, CACFP, CCAP, documents for school meal programs, etc.
Investigate and respond to incoming communications.
Lesson plans for the afterschool program and Health & Wellness lesson per grade.
Facilitate communication among all school and community partners
Oversee the #Wellness/Wednesday at lunch and recess
Facilitate home-to-school communication
Oversee student, parent, and partner surveys
Monthly Newsletter and PR posts, posters, and flyers
Oversee Work Ethics and Profile of the Trojan program
Chair the Wellness Committee
Prepare, review, analyze, and distribute statistical and outcome reports to supervisors about participation in school lunch, breakfast, snacks, etc.
Monthly staff meetings, coordinator meetings, Nutrition staff meetings, and principal meeting 4 Community activities
Maintain an updated community resource file for use in planning special events, afterschool programs, classrooms, cafeteria, and community events (i.e., Family engagement nights, skill-building, 95210 family nights, food tasting events, National School Lunch Week, National School Breakfast Week, School Lunch Hero Day, Farm to Fork (Spring and Fall), Hog Rost, Even with Industry, Walk-A-Mile, Tower to Table, FFVP, and other special events, etc.)
Collaborate with Nutrition Services Director and staff to promote menus that meet the nutritional and health needs of all children.
Participate in program self-assessment and planning activities to ensure department compliance with all regulations and to identify areas needing change.
Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of program improvement plans for needed areas.
Identify and report to the supervisor emerging problems, initiate a plan for additional assistance, and participate in ongoing improvements to program policies and procedures.
Initiate follow-up with community partners, parents, and teachers.
Participate in the Wellness Committee for the district and at each assigned school.
Participate on community advisory committees related to afterschool and health and nutrition as the director assigns.
Provide services to students through summer feeding programs as directed by the supervisor.
Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility.
Show enthusiasm, interest, and concern for the total program and its efficient operation.
Maintain professionalism in all areas of preparation and service.
Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Barren Beyond the Bell, Barren County Public Schools, and Barren County Nutrition Services.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Availability to work occasionally on evenings or weekends for field trips and special events

Ability to be at the assigned school site on Mondays-Friday (hours may be flexible)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year is comprised of the number of days as designated by the current school calendar and board policy.
Salary commensurate with the classified salary schedule.
Sick/personal leave and holidays are provided as stated in board policy.
The employee is an "at will" employee, and the superintendent may terminate this employment at any time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting (up to 25 lbs), bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and describe activities to youth. This position works around youth and adults with moderate noise exposure. This position will work both indoors and outdoors.
