SUMMARY OF DUTIES: To provide assistance in the development, implementation and coordination of the district special education program; consultant to teachers and administrators on special education matters
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have no convictions of a felony or past criminal history, be in good health as evidenced by completion of a physical examination as prescribed by the Board. Must be of good character and moral behavior; Kentucky certification in Special Education; degrees and experience commensurate with job description.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish positive school-community relations
Assists the Director in “child find” activities by coordinating and communicating with appropriate community service agencies
Planning, scheduling and coordinating the referral, testing and placement of students who may be eligible for special education programs
Coordinating transportation and other related services for students in the special education programs
Serve as the district representative to Preschool Interagency Planning Council training and meetings as requested
Coordinate and conduct the Special Education Parent Advisory Council meetings to ensure mutual trust and open communication between school personnel, family members and community agencies as requested
Assist in coordinating the educational programs of students in residential care facilities (Panorama, Rivendell, etc.)
Make home visits as needed to encourage positive communication and proper service delivery for all handicapped children in the Barren County district
Assists in formulating checklist and forms for accurate documentation
Monitor individual education programs and student folders to ensure students’ needs are being met within specified legal guidelines/requirements
Assist in providing teachers with accurate training and feedback regarding appropriate due process procedures
Coordinate, schedule and attend Admissions and Release Committee meetings as requested by the Coordinator
Coordinate and schedule annual review transitional SBARC meetings for pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools
Consult with school personnel concerning behavioral and academic needs of student upon request
Provide formal and informal in-service training for Barren County teachers
Chairs individual committees on curriculum and other areas and reports recommendations to the Special Education Coordinator
Conducts district-wide in-service training for accurate utilization of IEP’s.
Provides pertinent information regarding special education materials
Collects relevant data, reviews and recommends curriculum needs on all grade levels
Assists psychologists, home instruction teacher and other special education school personnel in intervention programming
Assists teachers in the area of Community Based Instruction and student transition activities
Assists with data collection for various state and federal reports
Coordinates materials for state mandated testing of special education students
Assists in the review and completion of special education Professional Staff Data forms
Maintains monthly report with complete documentation for all services provided by Teacher Consultation
Provides recommendations and documentation concerning individual students to principals upon request
Assists in coordination and maintenance of child tracking system
Attends appropriate professional meetings
Assists in coordination of special transportation services on an individual student need basis
Interviews applicants for special education positions as requested
Acts as Title I Resource Teacher as needed (see job description)
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Programs
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be required to complete all required training and attend in-service sessions.
Perform assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Consistently displays self-control with parents, students and school personnel.
Maintains a clean workstation (bus, desk, office, etc.) and does maintenance as needed.
Be clean, neat and appropriately dressed.
Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility.
Show enthusiasm, interest and concern for the total program and its efficient operation.
Maintain student control.
Operate equipment in a safe manner at all times.
Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Barren County Public Schools.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work year is comprised of the number of days as designated by board policy.
Salary commensurate with adopted certified personnel salary schedule.
Sick leave and personal leave provided as stated in board policy.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
