SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Serve as the lead instructor and coordinator for Magnet Programs offered in 21st Century and other out-of-school time activities by providing a safe and quality learning environment for students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have no convictions of a felony or past criminal history, be in good health as evidenced by completion of a physical examination as prescribed by the Board.  Must be of good character and moral behavior, must possess a high school diploma, GED, or teacher certification.

 

CRITICAL SKILL/EXPERTISE REQUIRED:

Knowledge of:

  • Review scholastic/behavior records to determine student eligibility for Magnet programming by encouraging participation to reduce academic gaps and increase rigor for all students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the school counselors, building principal, site coordinator, district administration and support staff, and community partners to sustain programming beyond the grant cycle.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to correspond with students, parents, and school staff regarding 21st CCLC Magnet programs and activities.
  • Skills for planning and organizing events, projects, lessons, and other extension activities for 21st CCLC Magnet students that will challenge or accelerate learning in academics, leadership, visual and performing arts, and community involvement.
  • Safe practices in classroom and extension activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Basic record keeping techniques and group presentation/facilitation of learning strategies.
  • Health and safety regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Ability to:

  • Work with 21st Century Site Coordinator in developing a class/program description and scheduling a series of academic or extension activities, working with magnet students weekly during regular programming (2 hours per week) and with summer 21st CCLC programming for a minimum of 5 programming days.
  • Collaborate with 21st CCLC Site Coordinator to host a family night event.
  • Learn child guidance principles and practices.
  • Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Attend training sessions (where applicable) to strengthen 21st CCLC Magnet programming.
  • Print and write legibly.
  • Maintain student and parent attendance records.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.
  • Monitor, observe and report student’s behavior according to approval policies and procedures.
  • Learn and apply safety procedures and regulations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate class activities and schedules with 21st Century Site Coordinator.
  • Present/Facilitate instruction to students enrolled in out-of-school time programs.
  • Monitor students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in large groups to ensure their safety; follow procedures to safeguard the health and safety of students.
  • Plan, organize and implement various academic and extension activities for students.
  • Recommend materials needed to carry out activities planned.
  • Confer with teachers, when needed, concerning student behavior and academic concerns.
  • Promote positive parent and child interactions and activities.
  • Participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Will be required to complete all required training and attend in-service sessions.
  • Performs assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Consistently displays self-control with parents, students and school personnel.
  • Maintains a clean workstation (classroom, desk, office, etc.) and does maintenance as needed.
  • Be clean, neat and appropriately dressed.
  • Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility.
  • Show enthusiasm, interest and concern for the total program and its efficient operation.
  • Maintains student control.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner at all times.
  • Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Barren County Public Schools and 21st Century Community Learning Centers and other out-of-school time activities.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. The services of a 21st Century Magnet Coordinator are used as needed for students participating in specific out-of-school time programs. Programs may be terminated at anytime as determined by the 21st Century Site Coordinator and/or principal.
  2. The employee is an “at will” employee and the superintendent may terminate this employment at any time.
  3. There are no paid holidays, sick days, or personal days with this position.
  4. This position will be paid with a $2500 stipend.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
